Remembering Jim Mosman

November 7, 2014

Dear NCTR Community,

We lost an advocate, colleague, and dear friend this week.  Jim Mosman died in his longtime hometown of Sacramento, California, on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Jim served as Executive Director of NCTR for more than a decade, and will be fondly remembered for his steadfast leadership in the pension community.

Jim devoted 22 years of his life working for teachers’ pension funds. After serving as CEO of CalSTRS from 1988 to 2001, Jim was hired to lead the National Council on Teacher Retirement (NCTR). He would spend the next decade enhancing and expanding NCTR’s legislative and educational programs.

Jim will also be remembered for having played a key role in the development of the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS). He believed in the NIRS and NCTR mission and was extremely honored to be actively involved in both organizations. Jim retired in 2012 as NCTR’s longest serving Executive Director. We know he made many wonderful relationships along the way; we will all truly miss his presence.

We ask that the members of NCTR keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. While we know this news brings sorrow, we ask that you focus instead on Jim’s many contributions to our cause and the fun times shared amongst us all.
