Pippa Malmgren

American Policy Analyst, Author & Former U.S. Presidential Advisor

Dr. Pippa Malmgren is a multiple bestselling author who is a world expert in the Economy, Leadership, and Technology. She is especially interested in explaining trends in the economy that people can take advantage of or better prepare for.  A two-time World Economic Forum Global Leader for Tomorrow, Pippa is an internationally regarded financial authority and trend spotter who takes on economics through a unique holistic lens, showing companies and individuals how they can extract valuable insights and economic implications by tapping into subtle signals strewn throughout our daily lives.  A former advisor to the US President, British Prime Minister, and to the National Economic Council, Dr. Malmgren shows audiences the human side of economics by demonstrating how everyday details ranging from hemlines to cereal boxes tie into the larger financial picture.  As a successful entrepreneur she shares her techniques for forecasting trends, finding opportunities, and fully capitalizing on them.  Dr. Malmgren is one of the few experts who accurately predicted the 2007-2008 Real Estate Bubble, BREXIT, and Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Pippa is the bestselling author of “Signals: How Everyday Signs Can Help Us Navigate the World’s Turbulent Economy”, “The Leadership Lab” (which won the Independent Press Award 2020 – Leadership Category and was the Business Book of the Year 2019 in the UK Business Book Awards), and “Geopolitics for Investors”.  Her timely and critically acclaimed 2020 release, “The Infinite Leader: Balancing the Demands of Modern Business Leadership”, Pippa and her co-author argue that the spectacular leadership failures that we have witnessed in recent history, stretching across business, community life and politics, can be explained by a lack of balance.

In 2019 Computer Weekly named Dr. Malmgren as one of the Most Influential Women in Tech in the UK. In late 2018, she was named one of the Fifty Top Inspiring Women in the UK and one of the Top 100 in Tech by @WATC_WeAreTech. She and Walter Isaacson together won the 2015 Intelligence Squared Debate on Robotics. Forbes has called @DrPippaM a “Must Follow” on Twitter since 2015. In 2018 she was listed as one of the Most Influential Economists in the World, Most Influential in Geopolitics. Top 100 Women in Blockchain, 5th Most Powerful Women in Finance and the 3rd most important Influencer on Robotics on Twitter (2017).

Pippa is a regular guest on CNBC and Bloomberg and often on the BBC including on The Today Program, Newsnight and Hard Talk. She serves as an advisor on the boards of the MIT Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship, Indiana University, the Ditchley Foundation, and Action for Children.

Dr. Malmgren encourages us to not get caught up in the headlines and talking points of financial experts, but rather to observe and analyze what we actually see happening around us, because too often people freeze their plans due to doom-and-gloom predictions, ironically bringing on the economic woes that were forecasted. Dr. Malmgren observes, “Instead of looking to Washington or London or Brussels for the answer, the answer is in your own assessment of what you are capable of in the circumstances that present themselves.”

Tuesday Keynote Speaker

Manuel Scott

Speaker, Author & Original Freedom Writer

An original Freedom Writer whose story is told in part in the 2007 hit movie, Freedom Writers, Manny Scott has energized almost two million leaders, educators, volunteers, and students worldwide with his authentic, inspiring messages of hope. On the road up to 300 days per year for the last two decades, Manny Scott is on a mission.

By age 16, Manny’s story was almost over: His father was incarcerated, he missed 60-90 days of school annually from 4th to 9th grade, he dropped out of school at age 14, he lived in 26 places by age 16, and his best friend was brutally murdered. Sensing that the end of his life was near, Manny sat down on a park bench, and considered how he would make others feel the depth of despair and anger roiling in his soul. He says, “When I look back, I now see that I was heading down a path that would have destroyed me.”

Then, several individuals entered his life and helped him turn the page. He returned to school and ended up in the back of Erin Gruwell’s English class—a group now known worldwide as the Freedom Writers, portrayed in the 2007 hit MTV movie. She and several others helped Manny go from Fs and Ds to As and Bs. They helped him become the first person in his family to graduate from high school and go to college. Through extremely hard work, and with the help of others, Manny is now living the life of his dreams.

In 2007, he founded Ink International, Inc, an education consulting firm that has empowered nearly two million people to improve the quality of not only their own lives, but also the lives of those around them. He has helped hundreds of organizations raise student achievement and leader effectiveness in 49 states and five continents; and, he has helped prevent thousands of dropouts and suicides.

He is now happily married, a doting father of three, a pilot, a Ph.D. student, and one of the nation’s most sought-after speakers.
